WHO WAS WHO IN OLD PLYMOUTH

CHARLES HENRY FURGUSON (1882-1960)

Charles Henry Furguson was the eldest son of Mr James Henry Furguson (1855-1934), mineral water manufacturer, and his wife, formerly Miss Michaeline Welman Symons.  He was born in Plymouth on October 2nd 1882, the year that his father started manufacturing mineral waters.  When his father died in a fire on Thursday April 26th 1934 he and his two younger brothers, Mr Archibald James Furguson (1885-1971) and Mr Roy Symons Furguson (1892-1986), took over the business of Messrs J H Furguson and Sons Limited, in Cambridge Lane West, Plymouth.

By the start of the Second World War in 1939 the Company was operating seven horses but after the War they started to purchase motor lorries.

Mr Charles Henry Furguson married his second wife, formerly Miss/Mrs Mary Lydia May Hill, at Penzance, Cornwall, in 1955.

Mr Charles Henry Furguson, of 45 Brancker Road, Plymouth, died on July 17th 1960 at Moorhaven Hospital, Bittaford, Ivybridge, Devon.  He was buried at the Drake Memorial Park, Plymstock, Devon, on July 20th 1960.  The senior partner was now Mr Archibald James Furguson (1885-1971).

Mrs Mary Lydia May Furguson was cremated at Weston Mil Crematorium, Devonport, on August 2nd 1974.
