WHO WAS WHO IN OLD PLYMOUTH

WILLIAM BISCOMBE (1857-1916)

William Biscombe, the eldest son of Mr William Biscombe (1832-1903), served an apprenticeship ina different trade before joining his father in the family business he founded, Messrs W Biscombe and Sons Limited.  When his father died on Thursday February 5th 1903 William junior became the senior partner.

He was a member of the Lodge Charity of the Freemasons.

William Biscombe, who never married, died suddenly at home at 5 number Tothill Avenue on December 23rd 1916.  The funeral took place on Thursday December 28th 1916 at the Anglican Church of Saint Jude the Apostle, the Reverend W A Prideaux officiating.  Mr Leger was the organist.  All the family were present except Mr Fred Biscombe, who was indisposed.  He was buried at the Plymouth, Stonehouse and Devonport Cemetery.

His younger brother, Mr Fred Biscombe (1865-1937), then became the senior partner of the firm.
