RAILWAYS IN OLD PLYMOUTH | SOUTHERN RAILWAY COMPANY SUTTON HARBOUR BRANCH Opened in 1879 as the London and Southern Railway Company Sutton Harbour Branch, the line passed from Friary Station to Sutton Harbour by means of a tunnel under Exeter Street. It then crossed Sutton Road on the level before passing behind some warehouses on to North Quay. It became the Southern Railway Sutton Harbour Branch as from January 1st 1923 and the British Railways (Southern Region) Sutton Harbour Branch as from January 1st 1948. |
