PLYMOUTH PATENT ALKALI COMPANY

The Plymouth Patent Alkali Company was one of a number of enterprises that attempted to make soap in the Plymouth area.

It appears not to have been very successful as half the partners left the firm within a short space of time:

Mr John Burnell (1793-1864) withdrew from the partnership on or about January 27th 1843.

Mr James Bryant, Mr William Eales and Mr Philip Edward Lyne withdrew from the partnership on or about January 30th 1843.

Mr William Burnell withdrew from the partnership on or about February 6th 1843.

This left only Mr William Longmaid; Mr Henry Elliott; Mr James Yonge; and Mr Joseph Elliott Square.

Pigot's and Company's "Royal National and Commercial Directory and Topography of the Counties of Berkshire.... Devonshire .... 1844" did not list the business.
