WHO WAS WHO IN OLD PLYMOUTH

NICHOLAS LOCKYER (1806-1864)

Nicholas Lockyer, the son of Mr Thomas Lockyer (1780-1854) and his wife Jane, was born on Wednesday November 26th 1806 and baptised at the Ancient Parish Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Plymouth, on Thursday May 21st 1807.

Mr Nicholas Lockyer, of Princess Square, Plymouth, married Miss Eliza Sykes Jackson, daughter of Mr William Jackson, barrister-at-law at Marlborough, Devon, on November 21st 1839.

He was chosen to be Mayor of Plymouth for 1843-44, in succession to Mr William Prance.

Mr Nicholas Lockyer, Master Extraordinary in Chancery, clerk to the Plympton Saint Mary Union, and Superintendent-Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages, died at his home, number 9 Princess Square, Plymouth, on January 14th 1864, aged 58 years.
