WHO WAS WHO IN OLD PLYMOUTH

ROY SYMONS FURGUSON (1892-1986)

Roy Symons Furguson was the youngest son of Mr James Henry Furguson (1855-1934), mineral water manufacturer, and his wife, formerly Miss Michaeline Welman Symons.  He was born in Plymouth on August 14th 1892.  When his older brother, Mr Archibald James Furguson (1885-1971), died in 1971, Mr Roy Symons Furguson (1892-1986) became the last member of the family to be involved with his late father's mineral waters business, Messrs J H Furguson and Sons Limited, at the New Victoria Brewery, Weston Park Road, Plymouth.

Mr Roy Symons Furguson had married Miss Lilian Kate Eliza Weeks at the Sherwell Congregational Chapel, in Plymouth, on June 12th 1916.

In January 1979 it was announced in the Western Evening Herald that the Company would no longer be manufacturing its own brand drinks but selling those of Britvic PLC (originally the British Vitamin Products Company), which was at that that time a division of Messrs Allied Breweries Limited.  Distribution continued from the Weston Park Road premises by their own lorries.

Mr Roy Symons Furguson died at the Down House Medical Facility, Tavistock Road, Crownhill, Plymouth, on May 21st 1986.
