RAILWAYS IN OLD PLYMOUTH  |  SOUTH DEVON RAILWAY COMPANY
MAIN LINE, BRENT STATION TO PLYMOUTH STATION (MILLBAY)

WRANGATON SIGNAL BOX

As Wrangaton was at first known as Kingsbridge Road, the first Kingsbridge Road Signal Box was opened circa 1874 at 231 miles 74 chains mile post mileage from London Paddington Station via Bristol Temple Meads.

A Kingsbridge Road West Ground Frame was open by 1878.

Both these were replaced by a new Wrangaton Signal Box at 231 miles 78 chains mile post mileage from London.  It was inspected by the Board of Trade on May 31st 1896.  Measuring 25 feet 1 inch by 12 feet, it contained a 31-lever frame.  This one could be switched out when now required.

Wrangaton Signal Box was closed on or as from January 16th 1966, the block section then becoming Brent to Ivybridge.

With grateful acknowledgement to the Signalling Record Society.
