BRANCH LINE, PLYMOUTH STATION (MILLBAY) TO LAUNCESTON STATION

LIFTON SIGNAL BOX

Lifton Signal Box opened by the Great Western Railway Company in June 1892.  The Box measured 15 feet by 8 feet and contained 17 levers.

Although Lifton Station had been closed to passenger traffic on and as from December 31st 1962, the Signal Box was retained because milk traffic was still dealt with at the Ambrosia Dairy.  The Signal Box was downgraded to Ground Frame status on and and as from September 20th 1964 and closed completely on and as from March 31st 1965.
