PLYMOUTH TECHNICAL SECONDARY SCHOOL FOR BOYS

Founded in 1911 as the Plymouth Junior Technical School for Boys, the School grew and prospered in Plymouth, then East Stonehouse and finally in Devonport until it was evacuated in 1941 to Torquay.

Following the Education Act 1944, the School was re-named the Plymouth Technical Secondary School and further temporary premises were found for it in Armada Street.  Apparently the best that could be said for these premises were that they were close to the Technical College.

In 1947 Mr Turpitt retired and was replaced by Mr E R Harris.

Eventually it was decided that they should be granted their own purpose-built premises in the grounds of Widey Court in the ancient parish of Eggbuckland and thus it became the Widey Technical Secondary School.
