OCTAGON BREWERY LIMITED
The Octagon Brewery, which was located in Martin Street, Plymouth, was founded by a Mr Joseph Godfrey in 1861.
In March 1898 the business and its 38 licensed houses was sold to a Mr W Gilling, of London, for £148,000 and it was incorporated as a limited liability company in January 1899. The Brewery was making 13,000 barrels beer a year at that time.
The business was purchased by Messrs H and G Simonds Limited, of Reading, Berkshire, in November 1954 and the Octagon Brewery Limited was put into liquidation the following year.
