BURRINGTON SECONDARY MODERN SCHOOL
Burrington Secondary Modern School was located in Honicknowle Lane, Pennycross, Plymouth.
The School motto was "Conabor" - 'I will try'.
The School was built on the site of Burrington House and was opened on Monday September 8th 1958. There were at that time 299 children attending the School. They were allocated to one of four houses, Saint Andrew, Saint Pancras, Saint Alban and Saint Francis.
Mr W J Button, a former pupil of Devonport High School for Boys, was the first Head Master. He retired in 1983.
By September 1961 there were 255 boys and 272 girls at the School, with twenty-one staff.
On September 10th 1986 the chairperson of the Devon Local Education Authority, Margaret Rogers, launched a £900,000 rebuilding programme, after which the School was renamed the John Kitto Comprehensive School.
